Nexus 4 Vs Samsung ATIV S; Android 4.2 takes on Windows Phone 8

It is going to be an interesting comparison. Google Nexus 4 Vs Samsung ATIV S is fight of Android 4.2 vs Windows Phone 8 handsets

The global phone market is to get a new turn. Major firmware makers have just launched new upgrades to their mobile software. Apple has iOS 6, Google has Android 4.1 and 4.2 Jelly Bean and Microsoft has a revamped Windows Phone 8. All platforms are getting fresh products one by one. Here we go for an interesting comparison between two great products; Samsung’s ATIV S and Google’s new Nexus 4. They are respectively to run Windows Phone 8 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Software: This is the area that mainly distinguishes the handsets. The ATIV S from Samsung is to come with Windows Phone 8. It is a special handset by the South Korean tech maker for Windows Phone 8 and it is meant to ensure its presence in the growing Windows Phone market.

The new Nexus phone from LG is to run the just announced Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update. This is a slight incremental upgrade to the Google mobile OS, which touts a set of thrilling features like Photo Sphere for 360-degree panorama images and multiple user accounts.

Display Screen: The ATIV S touts almost the same form and display of the company’s flagship Android phone, Galaxy S3. It sports a large 4.8-inch Super AMOLED multitouch screen that puts forward a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 306-ppi. The device’s visual quality is superb and you can enjoy sharp pictures, strong colors and vividness on it. LG has designed its Nexus 4 with a not-much-smaller display. The device has a 4.7-inch display that packs a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels at a better 318-ppi. The device utilizes True HD IPS+ LCD for its display.

Processor: Well, the handsets are brilliant in processing speed. Nexus 4 is built on an APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 quad core CPU that is clocked at 1.5GHz. The device is backed by a heavy 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 graphical processing unit. The Samsung WP 8 handset is equipped with an MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 dual core chip clocked at 1.5GHz. It has 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 225 for nice graphical performance.

Storage: The fourth generation Google Nexus phone falls short in built-in memory. The device only offers 8GB and 16GB memory options. The device, however, doesn’t have microSD capability. On contrast, the Samsung handset is flourishing with 16GB and 32GB memory options. Plus, it mounts microSD slot for memory cards up to 32GB.

Camera: Both the handsets pack 8MP rear cameras. They highlight LED flash, autofocus, touch focus and geo tagging and can capture video at 1080p. Nexus 4 has a 1.3MP front camera for video chatting, while the ATIV S sports a 1.9MP front snapper like Galaxy S3.

Connectivity: As connectivity options, the Samsung and LG handsets have GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, NFC and microUSB 2.0 in common. The ATIV S has Bluetooth 3.0, while the Nexus 4 has advanced 4.0.

Battery: The LG and Samsung phones respectively pack Li-Po 2100mAh and Li-Ion 2300mAh batteries. The former is able to run up to 15 hours on a single recharge and it is not known how the ATIV S will perform in battery life.

Availability: Both the devices are up for immediate releases. The LG Nexus phone is up for official shipping in the second week of Nov. The Samsung handset is also to come into market next month. As Windows Phone 8 is already uncovered by Microsoft, Samsung may roll out its premier Windows handset anytime this month.

Price: LG and Google are to sell the new Nexus phone for cheap prices. You can get the 8GB version for just $299 and the 16GB version for $349 (both unlocked). T-Mobile USA is to sell the phone for $199 on two year data contract. Samsung is yet to expose the price of its Windows Phone 8 handset.
